AIREDALE GROOMING

The Airedale Terrier is a dog that has close and compact hair.  It has no shedding time. A lot of people with allergies look for an Airedale because they believe its an hypo-allergenic dog.   Airedale cause less problems than most dogs but they are not perfect and some people do  have a reaction.  However it requires a good dressing because the hair can get to be three inches long if it is not well taken care of with weekly brushing to collect its hair.  Weekly brushing is necessary to aerate its fleece.

The stripping of a Airedale amounts to an esthetic preoccupation in order to show its anatomy and its nobility.  It also serves as a protective shield against the cold and a carapace against aggressions conducted by its prey.  In order to participate in dog shows, the Airedale must be stripped.  Various techniques are being used.  Stripping is an art that requires time and patience.  In order to handle the right technique and quality of grooming, you must obtain many years of apprenticeship and you should follow one method.  I will not elaborate on this specific matter, but I will talk about the hygienic care you will have to give your Airedale.  Particular attention must be given to the upkeep of the ears.  You must clean them every week to prevent problems.  A good brushing is necessary in order to remove dead hair from the Airedale fleece.  Since there is no shedding, the dead hairs stay imprisoned and by so doing they prevent the skin from breathing.  It is the same for the under hair or undercoat.

In order to keep your Airedale in good health, you must commit a minimum of forty-five minutes weekly to perform its grooming (hygiene).  You must clip its nails, clean the eyes and the ears, brush the hair and teeth and carry out a general examination in order to disclose wounds and other sickness symptoms. What is more important is to teach your Airedale to be handled while very young.  Never forget that a good dog biscuit will always make the job easier.
